Affinity Covid-19 Update -

Updated Mon, 18 May 2020

GREAT news – we can cruise!

The vessel and crew are planning to depart Picton 23rd May to head to Fiordland – we are very excited to be able to cruise again and show you all this wonderful part of New Zealand. ALL of our crew and staff are fit, healthy and covid-19 free.

Before departing Picton there are a few extra things that the crew are doing to give you the confidence that cruising with us is a safe option.

What we will be doing on board the vessel to keep everyone safe.

  • We have employed a 4th crew member who will be responsible for keeping the vessel sanitized.
  • Bathroom facilities and the vessel will be cleaned at more frequent intervals.
  • Contract tracing is already in place through your booking information.
  • We will be limiting our numbers to 10 passengers until the government increases the limit for gatherings.

The vessel Affinity is a controlled environment and we are very confident in the procedures we have introduced to keep our crew and passengers safe and would not cruise if we did not think so.

The entire team at Affinity Cruises thank you for your support by cruising with us.

Affinity Covid-19 Update -

Updated Fri, 17 April 2020

With the prospect of moving to level 3 next week and finding out what level 3 means we can still not cruise. We may be able to operate at level 2 with minimum number of passengers but we will have to wait and see. We are keen to get back cruising as soon as possible but the safety of our passengers and crew is paramount.

Therefore, we have made the following decisions.

Stewart Island Cruises

6-11 May 2020 deferred until 2021

13-18 May 2020 decision pending we will make a definite decision 24 April 2020

  1. Transfer to Stewart Island Cruise May 2021 for the same cost as 2020.
  2. Transfer to 13-18 May 2020 if that is to go ahead.
  3. Transfer to a 6 Night Fiordland cruise (June, July or August 2020) for the same price that you have paid for your 5 Night Stewart Island cruise. If a helicopter flight is part of the cruise the helicopter cost will be an additional cost to pay.
  4. A full cruise credit to use on any other cruise up until 31 May 2021.
  5. Cancel your cruise and get a refund less your non-refundable deposit.

Travel Insurance

Unfortunately, most travel insurance policies do not cover pandemics but please contact your travel insurance company direct to discuss your options.

If you choose to cruise on a later date CoverMore travel insurance can extend your policy for a longer duration (a small additional fee may be charged for the extension, but this hasn’t happened yet on the few that I have done).

As always if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch, email is the best option with us working from our homes;

Vicky =

Thank you for your understanding during these challenging times and stay safe and stay in touch.

Kindest regards

Will we or won't we be able to cruise this winter!!

Updated 14 April 2020

We understand that the Prime Minister is going to make an announcement on Thursday about how we as a country will transition back through the stages. This announcement will hopefully give us a better understanding of how and when we will be able to cruise again.

I know how frustrating it must be for you all with everything in a holding pattern at the moment but please rest assured that as soon as we are able to make a decision we will be advising you, our loyal cruising friends, as soon as possible whether we are all go or whether we need to wait until a later date.

Stewart Island cruises – May 2020 - We will decide on Friday 17th April  if these cruises are able to go ahead or not this year.

Fiordland Cruises – June, July and August 2020 – At this stage we are hopeful that these may still be able to go ahead it will be determined by travel restrictions around the country as we come out of lock down. We will keep you posted as information comes to hand.

What we are currently doing – We are all in our own little bubbles working remotely from home.

Aamai is improving and updating our website to make it more user friendly as well as loading all the 2021 cruising dates on to it as well as replying to emails and keeping in touch, she is also upgrading our database system and this has really come with quite a few challenges.

Vicky is updating the accounting system to make it easier for you all to pay for your cruises via credit cards. She is also revising all advertising and looking at how we can entice and tell the general public that cruising on ‘Small Ships’ within New Zealand waters is a great and safe experience. She has also spent a bit of time with the database update getting it into a cloud to enable her to work away from the main database which is housed on Aamai’s computer, nothing is ever straight forward.

Diane – Affinity’s co-owner and number one shopper, she gets all the food and linen for each cruise and basically anything else that’s required for the vessel. She has spring cleaned the office (it’s based on her property) and revising her ordering systems.

Brian and Gail – They are down the Sounds at their batch/house making the most of this down time and when restrictions are lifted they will head back to Affinity and tick off a few of the maintenance jobs.

Please stay safe

Captain Cook 250th Anniversary Cruise Update

This cruise was enjoyed by everybody onboard our vessel.
Picton and the Marlborough Sounds were buzzing with excitement for the 250th celebration and to see the vessels coming into Picton harbour with Affinity following behind the flotilla was fantastic.
So pleased that we were able to share this amazing event with our passengers.

It’s time to CELEBRATE!

Captain Cook 250th Anniversary Cruise 20-24 November 2019

We are getting very excited about this cruise!  We will experience the arrival of the flotilla as they head to ship Cove in the outer Queen Charlotte Sound for the start of the local celebrations, cruising to Motuara Island, walking parts of the Queen Charlotte Track and many other activities on this cruise then following the flotilla into Picton, this is the pinnacle of the cruise and a highlight for our passengers.  We have one cabin left, be quick!
